Jeff Conaway, the American actor who was hospitalized on May 11th 2011 after being found unconscious at his home, is facing a crucial period to survive, according to the Washington Post. Jeff Conaway, best known for playing 'Kenickie' in the hit 1979 movie 'Grease', is suffering from pneumonia and sepsis, a potentially deadly blood poisoning caused by bacterial infection.
Conaway's manager Phil Brock says the actor is now facing an important period in his recovery, with the next 48 hours considered crucial. Brock says the actor was placed in a medically induced coma at the Encino Tarzana Medical Centre in order to aid his recovery. Although early reports suggested that Conaway's hospitalization was caused by a prescription drug overdose, his friend Dr Drew Pinsky rubbished the speculation on his Twitter page, saying, "Just visited Jeff Conaway. He is stable & looks like he will recover from his pneumonia. Not an OD like press is alleging & certainly not dead". However, despite his initial optimism, Pinsky tweeted again on Saturday (21st May 2011), saying, "We all need to pray for him. Not doing well today suddenly".
Jeff Conaway aired his battle with addiction during multiple stints on the hit reality television show 'Celebrity Rehab'. In recent years, the actor had starred in the sci-fi series 'Babylon 5'.
