Welsh soprano Katherine Jenkins is convinced her dad's untimely death pushed her to succeed as a singer - because the heartache made her determined to fulfil her dreams of stardom.
The opera star's father Selwyn lost his battle with lung cancer when she was 15 years old, and the tragedy changed her "outlook on life".
And Jenkins admits she now relishes her success because she knows how proud her dad would be if he were alive now.
She tells Britain's Daily Express, "I definitely think when you have a loss like that, it changes your outlook on life. Life's too short, you know? You never know what's going to happen and you have to make the most of it.
"My dad had always made me think that all this, my music career, could actually happen to me. So I take every opportunity because I think he would love to see all this."
