Jennifer Lawrence, the star of the record breaking movie The Hunger Games, has told the UK's Sun newspaper that she was "too fat, too pretty and too blonde" to play Katniss Everdeen, when she landed the role. According to Lawrence, she felt pressure from fans of the books who had criticised the decision to cast her in the role, as she didn't fit in to their idea of how the character should look, claiming she was "too fat, too pretty and too blonde".
Lawrence explained to The Sun "I didn't know until the interviewers told me that all the fans were p****d because I was blonde. Then I was like, 'What? Damn, I'll just dye my hair" The 21 year old actress, who is dating the British actor Nicholas Hoult, also revealed that she trained hard for the role, to make sure that she was in good shape for filming and of course, to meet the fans' expectations of what Katniss should look like. "It was intense. I had training about three times a day for a few months. Then, once we started working, I had to have the training just for endurance because it was so many hours." She went on to reveal "I mean, if there's a scene of me running up a mountain, that's what we shot all day - me running up a mountain."
It wasn't only the fans of The Hunger Games that Jennifer felt the pressure from though; she gave herself a hard time, being a fan of the book herself. "I almost wished I didn't love them as much as I did because of just the pressure I put on myself to make sure it was something I could be happy about and proud of," she told The Sun, adding "Katniss is such an iconic character and there is so much pressure just coming from myself because I was a fan."
