Jeremy Renner was considered a ''weirdo'' in California because he didn't go surfing.

The 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' star was born and raised in the sun-drenched US State famous for having beautiful beaches and clean waves to ride.

However, Renner never had the urge to grab a board and dive in the sea or partake in some of the extra-curricular activities associated with the pastime which meant he was considered an outcast.

The 42-year-old actor revealed: ''I grew up in California and Hawaii but I don't surf or smoke weed, so everybody considered me a weirdo; which I probably am!''

Renner has achieved huge success in his career in recent years with starring roles in 'The Bourne Legacy', 'The Avengers' and 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol'.

He has also experienced happiness in his personal life with her and his girlfriend, Canadian model Sonni Pacheco, welcoming a daughter, Ava Berlin Renner, into the world in March.

However, Renner insists he has no plans to marry in the near future and admits his parents' divorce when he was 10 has been a factor in his decision.

In an interview with Italian magazine Best Movie, he said: ''I'm married to my career and for now that's the only kind of commitment I'm planning to have. Coming from a family with many divorces, I vowed not to make the same mistakes.''
