Jim Carrey - Jim Carrey Turns His Back On 'Dumb And Dumber' Sequel
It looks as though plans for an anticipated 'Dumb and Dumber' sequel have been abandoned, Entertainment Today have reported (June 20, 2012) that the movie's main star, Jim Carrey, has walked out on the project, leaving it looking unlikely that the movie will progress. And, if it does go ahead, there will not be quite such the enthusiasm for its release as there would with the rubber-faced comic on board.
Back in April, we reported that Peter Farrelly - one half of the directorial brother-duo responsible for Dumb and Dumber - had announced that filming for the sequel was due to commence in September this year. According to Entertainment Today, Carrey was becoming frustrated by both Warner Brothers and New Line who were, he felt, showing a lack of enthusiasm for the project. ETOnline managed to obtain a statement from Carrey, backing up these claims, in which Carrey states "I would have thought Dumb and Dumber Two was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title." The news will come as a disappointment to fans of the original film who will be keen for a decent sequel to hit the screens, especially following on from Dumb and Dumberer, which featured neither Jim Carrey nor Jeff Daniels.
Jim Carrey is still scheduled to be appearing in another Warner Brothers / New Line production next year, however. He'll star alongside Steve Carell and Olivia Wilde in 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone', telling the tale of an ageing Vegas magician struggling to remain relevant as a 'hip' new magician appears on the scene.
