The daughter of jazz saxophonist Jimmy Greene was one of the victims of Friday's (14Dec12) tragic Connecticut school massacre.

Suspected gunman Adam Lanza, 20, opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, killing 20 young children and six teachers before allegedly turning the weapon on himself.

It has since emerged that one of those tragically murdered was six-year-old Ana Marquez-Greene. Her elder brother, Isaiah, was also inside the school at the time of the shooting, but he miraculously escaped unscathed.

The grieving blues star has since taken to his Facebook.com page to thank fans for their overwhelming support following the sick tragedy, writing, "As much as she's needed here and missed by her mother, brother and me, Ana beat us all to paradise. I love you sweetie girl."

The family recently moved from Canada to Connecticut after the composer's therapist wife, Nelba Marquez-Greene, got a job at a local university.

The little girl's grandmother, Elba Marquez, reveals the kid was enrolled at Sandy Hook because of the school's renowned reputation.

She tells Canada's CTV News, "They looked for the best school for their daughter, the best. It was a beautiful place, just beautiful. What happened does not match up with the place where they live."
