Michael Jackson's father Joe has urged awards show bosses to ban Kanye West from all showbusiness bashes for good after the rapper stormed onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (13Sep09) to protest Taylor Swift's Best Female Video win.
The thrilled country singer was in the middle of her acceptance speech when ill-mannered West grabbed the microphone from her and declared her award belonged to Beyonce.
The outspoken star has since been chastised by stars like Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry for ruining Swift's magic moment - her first MTV VMA victory.
Joe Jackson, who was in the audience at New York's Radio City Music Hall, admits he was stunned by West's ill-advised protest - because the rapper had been talking to the Jackson family patriarch just minutes before.
He tells TMZ.com, "I had just gotten through speaking to him, he was introducing me to his girlfriend (Amber Rose) and then three minutes later he jumped up on stage. And people booed Kanye all night."
Jackson wants West to be fully punished for his behaviour and insists a permanent ban from future awards shows and events is the way to go: "I don't know what he was doing, he jumped up on stage and snatched that microphone out of that poor girl's hand.
"They should blackball him out of showbusiness for that. He just leapt (sic) up there; that was bad."
West took to his online blog moments after his outburst and apologised to Swift for interrupting her speech. He has since apologised again and is expected to make a public TV apology on Monday night (14Sep09) when he appears on premiere episode of The Jay Leno Show with Beyonce's husband Jay-Z.
