In the wake of their split, reports have surfaced today that Johnny Depp will be handing over half of his 200 million pound fortune to his former partner, Vanessa Paradis. The couple were together for 14 years and have two children together, though they never married. The tabloid media has been rife with rumours of a split for some time, though the news was only made official on Tuesday (June 19, 2012).
A source close to the couple told People magazine that they have been working hard to save the relationship "but have known for weeks that it can't be saved." Paradis was apparently house-hunting, alone in Beverly Hills and Malibu recently, despite Depp insisting to the media "I can't say enough about it not being over." The 100 million pound split of Depp's fortune is thought to be one of history's ever financial settlements involving a non-married couple, according to The Metro. Depp is thought to be handing over the equal share in a bid to keep the separation amicable.
Another source told The Sun newspaper "It's so sad. Johnny and Vanessa gambled that they could move to California and be on long stays on film locations for his career. They bet that things would continue there as they had in the south of France. They lost that bet. She went seven years between albums and films, while he became Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates films."
