Johnny Marr - Johnny Marr Defends Tv Ad Song

Rocker Johnny Marr has spoken out to address accusations he and his former songwriting partner Morrissey "sold out" by allowing one of their tracks to be used in a TV commercial, insisting the allegation is "nonsense".
The former The Smiths bandmates came under fire from fans late last year (11) when a cover version of their 1984 song Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want was used in the Christmas ad campaign for U.K. department store John Lewis.
Many critics accused the cult songwriting duo of jeopardising their integrity by allowing the track to be used in a commercial - but guitarist Marr is adamant the incident was "no big deal".
He tells Vive Le Rock magazine, "It's a load of fuss about nothing really. It absolutely is. I find that people are pretending that it means such a great deal to them when it wasn't before they read it was a big deal... So far I've just heard a load of b**ching from a load of people sitting on their couches waiting for (The) X Factor to come back on the telly (TV).
"Give me a f**king break. Go and give Queen a load of s**t - why do we have to be the arbiters of f**king integrity?... It's nonsense."
