Norah Jones almost quit music before finding fame with her debut album COME AWAY WITH ME, because working as a waitress was making her fat and miserable.
Jones' jazz hit sold 10 million copies, topping charts around the world and catapulting her to instant fame.
But she admits she came close to walking away from music after struggling to settle in New York.
The 30 year old says, "I'd gained weight - waiting tables, I was eating a lot of corn muffins and I didn't know they were filled with butter. I felt fat, I felt gross."
And she credits her mum with giving her the strength to stick it out: "I called my mom crying and said I wanted to go back to Texas. But my mom said, you know, you've only been there six months; at least give it a full year."
