Joseph Gordon-levitt - Joseph Gordon-levitt Creating Variety Show
Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt is returning to his Tv roots to develop and host a new variety show based on artist contributions to his online production company hitRECord.
The Inception star has previously turned submissions of short stories and illustrations from the website into a unique book series, while short films made by Internet collaborators have been screened at the Sundance Music Festival in Utah and at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada.
Now Gordon-Levitt has signed a deal with executives at new cable channel Pivot to launch a hitRECord variety show - and he's calling on "artists of any kind" to submit their work for consideration.
Announcing the news in a YouTube.com video, the former 3rd Rock from the Sun actor says, "Ladies and gentlemen we are making a Tv show, like, actually on television!
"It's gonna be a half-hour variety show; I'm gonna be the host. We're gonna have short films, live performances, music, animation, conversation and more. Every episode is going to be regarding a theme, like the road, or snow, or outsiders, childhood, Halloween... and we're doing it on this brand new cable channel called Pivot...
"hitRECord is a collaborative production company so we're going to make this Tv show together. Anybody can come contribute to our collaborations or start your own. I'll be on there every day making stuff, directing the community and putting our work together into episodes of this show and like with any HitRecord production, if we use your stuff, we pay you for it.
"So, writers, write us a short story, or a script or a poem, maybe another artist on the site will act that out and it becomes a short film. Musicians, even if you don't have a whole song, put up what you have because other musicians will come play on top of that then maybe you will perform it at one of our live shows...
"This is not a joke, this is not a marketing gimmick; this is an invitation. We're going into pre-production soon so actually now is a really good time to come see how we do things... I'm so excited to get to work with you and I think we're going to make a really good show."
The new variety programme, announced on Wednesday (27Mar13), has yet to receive a premiere date.
