Journey singer Steve Perry has been rigorously denying that he'll be reuniting with the veteran rockers, in spite of their recent resurgence, with seminal track 'Don't Stop Believin' featuring on numerous TV programs and films over the last couple of years. The band have been releasing albums since 1975, but it was with the singer's arrival in 1977 that they started making a real name for themselves, fourth album 'Infinity' going three times platinum in the US a year later and the band eventually reaching their commercial apex with 1981's nine times US platinum selling 'Escape'.
Unsurprisingly that LP topped the Billboard charts and spawned their huge hit 'Don't Stop Believin'. Eventually splitting in 1987, they reformed to record a number 3 charting 'Trial By Fire', with Perry leaving again in 1997 due to a hip injury. Journey have continued since.
With 'Don't Stop Believin' being featured on the likes of 'Glee', 'The Sopranos' and now forthcoming Brad Pitt film 'Moneyball' however, their popularity is at a high again and the former vocalist has had to deny rumours he's joining up with his old band mates again. "It's like any emotional, committed relationship. At some point, they seem to all have a shelf life and bands are no exception," he told The Associated Press, "Life has moved us all on in different places in our lives . They're doing what they're doing . And I've been doing what I'm doing, which is living my life and having a personal life." The bands guitarist Neal Schon however has offered hope, praising his old band mate, saying, "Steve Perry is an amazing singer, one of the best ever, in the world. I love the fact that he had R&B roots."
