A judge has ordered another review of Chris Brown's community service to determine whether the R&B star has violated the terms of his probation over his now-infamous 2009 beating of Rihanna.

The Kiss Kiss singer was handed a five-year probation order, as well as six months' community service, after he was convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend on the eve of the Grammy Awards three years ago.

He appeared in court in Los Angeles on Monday (24Sep12), for the first time in more than a year, for a progress report hearing.

It emerged during the session that Brown tested positive for marijuana during a random drug test in Virginia, where the star was fulfilling his court-ordered community service, in June (12).

However, Brown - who has a medical marijuana prescription in California - will not face any legal consequences, even though smoking weed is illegal in Virginia, because Judge Patricia Schnegg never ordered him to undergo mandatory drug testing as part of his probation.

However, Judge Schnegg warned Brown that his status as a pop star makes him a role model and he should be mindful of his public image, according to the Associated Press.

She told him, "You are not an average person who can sit in their living room and do what you want to do. You are not only in the public eye, but you are on probation."

Official documents indicated Brown has completed 1,402 hours of community service, ranging from picking up trash, washing cars, painting and tending to stables.

Judge Schnegg ordered a further review of the singer's community service and travel arrangements and Brown will return to court on 1 November (12) for the update.

Rihanna, who has since patched up her friendship with her ex-boyfriend, reached out to the star on Twitter.com before the hearing, writing in a post, "Chris Brown I'm praying for you and wishing u (sic) the best today!"
