Judge Refuses To Dismiss Charges Against Basinger
LATEST: A Los Angeles judge yesterday (11OCT06) refused to dismiss the contempt charges faced by Oscar winner Kim Basinger. The La Confidential actress stands accused of disregarding court orders over her ex-husband Alec Baldwin's visitation rights with their daughter IRELAND, and the case will go to trial in January (07). Superior Court Commissioner MAREN E NELSON refused to accept a motion filed by Basinger's lawyer JUDY BOGEN that there was insufficient evidence to prove the alleged 12 counts of contempt. Basinger, 48, and Baldwin, 52, agreed to share custody of 10-year-old IRELAND in 2004 - four years after their divorce (00). Baldwin accuses his ex-wife of blocking his visitation rights and failing to notify him when Ireland was injured and needed medical treatment in 2005. She has pleaded innocent to all charges. If convicted, Basinger could spend up to two months in jail and receive a $12,000 (GBP6,700) fine.
