A furious Justin Bieber was booed at The Billboard Music Awards.

The 19-year-old singer accepted his Milestone Award to a chorus of boos and hisses from the audience at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the annual awards ceremony on Sunday (19.05.13).

Justin - who also scooped Top Male Artist and Top Social Artist - took to the stage to make an emotional speech, touching upon his headline-grabbing antics in the past year.

He told the crowd: ''I'm 19 years old. I think I'm doing a pretty good job. And basically, from my heart, I just really want to say it should really be about the music.

''This is not a gimmick. I'm an artist and I should be taken seriously, and all this other bulls**t should not be spoken of.''

Justin's brand of pop has long divided critics, but he recently angered even his own fans by showing up two hours late for one of his London concerts, and getting into a scrap with a photographer.

The singer's performance at the awards went down well, however, and saw the leather-clad star emerge from futuristic-looking egg to perform a rendition of 'Take You'.

Taylor Swift, who is good friends with Justin's ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, seemed unimpressed and appeared to snub the star when asked about his big win.

Quizzed in the press room about Justin receiving the Milestone Award at so young an age, Taylor quipped: ''Can we have another question, please?''

However, Justin and Selena - who split up in the New Year - appeared to have put their differences behind them and were spotted sharing a friendly peck on the cheek backstage.

Nevertheless, the 'Come & Get It' singer didn't stand when Justin's name was called for the Top Male Artist Award.
