Kanye West says he is "working on his ego" after an episode of South Park lampooned the rap star.

The Touch the Sky rapper was parodied in the animated comedy in a new episode entitled Fishsticks and has admitted the cartoon pastiche "hurts" his feelings.

However, the 31-year-old took the South Park skit well and wrote on his online blog that he was dedicated to changing the public's perception of him.

The Comedy Central programme, screened in the UK on Good Friday, saw leading character Cartman taking credit for a joke written by his classmate Jimmy, in which the fourth grader made a play on the word "fishsticks" (the US name for fish-fingers).

Despite the joke being dubbed the 'funniest ever' by talkshow hosts, the Kanye West spoof saw the rapper unable to understand the pun, with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone satirising West's renowned self-confidence.

In a post on his website kanyeuniversity.com, the Love Lockdown star described the episode as "pretty funny".

"I actually have been working on my ego though," he added.

"Having the crazy ego is played out at this point in my life and career. I used to use it to build up my esteem when nobody believed in me.

"Now that people do believe and support my music and products the best response is thank you instead of 'I told you so!!!'"

West said he wanted to "get past myself" and move away from the habit of speaking publicly about his own talents, citing fellow rapper Lil Wayne as an example of a musician whose private persona is different to his recording personality.

He continued: "As long as people think I act like a b***h this type of s**t will happen to me.

"I got a long road ahead of me to make people believe I'm not actually a huge douche but I'm up for the challenge."
