Kasabian Join Seal Protest

British rockers Kasabian are following in Morrissey's footsteps by protesting against Canada's annual seal hunt. Former The Smiths star Morrissey has long criticised the country for its yearly cull and has vowed never to perform in Canada while the practice is still in force. And now Kasabian have signed a petition, launched by People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA), which appeals against the Canadian government's decision to allow the killing of baby harp seals. Frontman Tom Meighan says, "I think it's just common sense really, I mean, of course I don't think it's OK to smash a baby seal's skull. I'd never wear fur, it's such an ugly thing to do."

There is no humanity about this so called "hunt", despite the repetitive and irritatingly smug Canadians who parrot the party line. The DFO is not interested in following up on any reported cases of breaking their own regulations, much less on monitoring cruelty. It has been shown that at least 42% of the babies killed (and they are just babies, they are just over two weeks old and still unable to eat solid food or swim) are are still conscious when skinned, in other words they are skinned alive. Over 660 cases of documented/FILMED cases of cruelty were presented to the European commission, including illegal bashing of white coats, skinning alive and illegal weapons. A large number of wounded and maimed seals not reported in the kill count escape and slip beneath the ice to die a long and agonizing death. Year after year, Canada is guilty of horrific crimes with bloody scenes repeating over and over of mother seals screaming and crying trying to protect and revive the bloodied bodies of their cubs against the relentless and cruel Canadians. Canada is acting like a third dictatorship and has no right to host the olympics or join any other country as an equal.
