Kate Nash - Kate Nash Praises Recovery Efforts In London
British singer Kate Nash has praised U.K. officials for moving swiftly to clean up London in the wake of widespread destruction caused by violent riots.
The U.K. capital is recovering following three nights of chaos as thugs ran wild, ransacking stores and setting fire to buildings and cars.
Nash has joined a community drive to help restore the city and admits she's impressed by how quickly authorities have cleared up the mess in areas that were hit hardest.
She tells British morning show Daybreak, "It was really positive. I was worried it might be tense, but it was really calm and everybody was just waiting around patiently. People waited hours and there was no sense of tension...
"I met people in Bethnal Green, and Hackney had already been cleaned overnight. The council did a really good job, it's worth mentioning."
But the Foundations hitmaker insists politicians now need to examine the problems in society that sparked the riots.
She adds, "Clearly there's something really deep and I hope (attention is paid to) what we should be doing to try and ensure that this never happens again and why these young people are going out there and destroying their neighbourhoods and communities and why they have no sympathy. We need to address this."
