News broke early yesterday that Katie Holmes is filing for divorce from Tom Cruise after five-years of marriage. Whilst the pair agreed to a prenuptial agreement prior to the marriage, protecting each other's worth prior to the matrimony, a bitter custody battle for 6-yeear-old daughter Suri is now likely to ensue.
It is reported that Holmes is seeking primary custody of little Suri and also want a substantial amount of child support from Cruise, which is likely run into millions. However, it comes as no surprise to learn that Cruise is gearing himself up for a bitter battle over their daughter, commenting that he is "concentrating on his... children".
Friends of the Rock of Ages star have said that whilst sad, the actor is now solely concentrating on what's best for his three children.
For months now, speculation has been rife that the couple were experiencing problems with their marriage, but they repeatedly denied these rumours to the press. The marriage had long caused parody on Cruise's behalf, with commentators comparing Holmes' side of the marriage as being under house arrest.
The marriage to the Batman Begins star Katie was Cruise's third avowal, having previously wedded Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman. It was Holmes' first marriage.
