Katy Perry's strict religious upbringing ruined a magic moment at the Coachella festival in California in April (12), because she didn't know Tupac Shakur's hits.
The pop star was banned from listening to secular music by her born-again-Christian parents and admits there are still a lot of important rap and hip-hop icons she is only just discovering - and Tupac is one of them.
So when his hologram appeared during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's Coachella set, she was among the few audience members who didn't know what the slain star was rapping about.
Perry says, "I didn't know anyone and I still, to this day, don't know certain songs when I'm out... When Tupac was the hologram... I didn't really know it (lyrics) but I didn't wanna be left out."
