In a bid to stop the residents of Minnesota hopping over state borders to purchase their fireworks, the Republican John Kriesel has launched a campaign to legalise bottle rockets in the state, with the aid of Katy Perry's 'Firework.' Kriesel has chosen the song to soundtrack his campaign and according to City Pages, he pulled a few quotes from Perry's hit single to colour his argument a little.
Talking to state representatives on Tuesday, Keisel said "Do you feel we are not as fun as other states?" He then read out the lines "You just gotta ignite, the light and let it shine," straight from Perry's pop number. Several of his colleagues also then recited lines from the song in a bid to get their argument across. Currently, residents of Minnesota are forced to cross the border to Wisconsin or Dakota to purchase the large fireworks that are currently banned. It is hoped that changing the law will encourage more money to be spent n Minnesota, rather than its neighbouring states.
Katy Perry has recently re-released the album Teenage Dream, which 'Firework' was originally included on. The version, entitled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, includes her latest single 'Part of Me.' When she first performed the single at the Grammys in February 2012, many assumed that the lyrics were directed at her former husband, Russell Brand, though Perry insists the song was written a long time before their marriage hit trouble.
