Keane Offer New Track For Free Downloadby Contributor | | 04 August 2008
Keane have made their new single Spiralling available for free download for one week only.
Following the example set by Coldplay - whose free download of Violet Hill led to their website crashing - the Sussex trio are offering fans the chance to hear a preview of their third album will the new download.
Having been exclusively played by BBC Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley, Spiralling was made available for download at 11:00 BST on August 4th at the band's official website, keanemusic.com.
Recorded at Berlin's Teldex Studio earlier this year, the song is "a train of thought about human endeavour, built on an outrageous groove" according to Keane's lead singer Tom Chaplin.
The band's third album Perfect Symmetry will be released on October 13th October with lead single The Lovers Are Losing out on October 6th.
The album is the three-piece's first effort since 2006's multi-platinum Under the Iron Sea and involved working with composers John Brion and Stuart Price.
"We started out in Paris, where Jon Brion inspired us to create first and think later," they wrote on their official website.
"We took the night train to Berlin, where everything came together in an avalanche of experimentation that took us all by surprise; where we made a pact with Stuart Price to ignore the rules of good taste; where we were hypnotised by Marlene Dietrich and spent many a long night throwing ideas around in the crumbling Cabaret-esque glamour of our favourite bar."
And the trio concluded: "We've hidden ourselves away in the depths of the English countryside, recorded a new track in London at the last possible moment, and now we're in Los Angeles tying up the loose ends."
