Kim Kardashian is being urged to return the gifts from her $10 million wedding to Kris Humphries, after filing for divorce just 72 days after the lavish nuptials. The couple reportedly received over $172,000 of crystal, vases, place settings and gold napkin rings from the wedding in Montecito, California, according to the New York Daily News.
The reality star stunned the entertainment world on Monday (31st October 2011), confirming she is to end the marriage after just over two months. Despite getting the backing of her family, Kim is already coming under pressure from etiquette experts who have turned their attention to the set of gifts she received at the high profile wedding. Emily Post, author of Etiquette 18th Edition, said, "The rule of thumb is if the marriage ends after just six months, you should return the unused gifts. After just 72 days, the gifts must be returned to the wedding guest". Lizzie adds that Kim and Kris should also look to include handwritten notes, thanking guests for their support but letting them know the marriage is to end, adding, "It wouldn't be proper etiquette to keep those gifts". Sarah Newell, lifestyle editor at the WeddingChannel.com suggested the reality star should consider donating the gifts to charity.
Despite urging Kardashian to return the gifts, the experts agree that she keep her wedding ring and Vera Wang dress, despite the fact the marriage has ultimately failed. Although the reason for the divorce is still unconfirmed, it is understood the relationship became strained over disputes over where the couple should live.
