The billionaire Koch brothers have responded angrily to comments made by comedian and actor Zach Galifianakis during the promotional trail for his new movie 'The Campaign'. The movie features a wealthy pair of donors called the 'Motch brothers', which Galifianakis told the New York Daily News were "obviously" based on David and Charles Koch.
However, the Hangover star didn't stop there, and labelled the brothers "creepy", saying, "I disagree with everything they do. They are creepy and there is no way around that. It's not freedom what they are doing". The brothers' company Koch Industries is the second largest privately owned company in the United States and the pair spend tens of millions on Republican causes each year. However, despite their busy schedules, the brothers seemingly caught wind of Galifianakis' comments and issued a rebuttal, saying, "Last we checked, the movie is a comedy. Maybe more to the point is that it's laughable to take political guidance or moral instruction from a guy who makes obscene gestures with a monkey on a bus in Bangkok". The latter comment was in reference to a scene in Galifanakis' biggest movie 'The Hangover II'. The brothers' spokesman added, "We disagree with his uninformed characterization of Koch and our beliefs. His comments, which appear to be based on false attacks made by our political opponents, demonstrate a lack of understanding of our longstanding support of individual freedom, freedom of expression, and constitutional rights".
'The Campaign' - also starring Will Ferrell - hits cinemas on Friday (August 10, 2012). Cinema Blend said the movie had "a genius behind the silliness".
