Singer/actress Kristin Chenoweth has been left with red, swollen eyes after suffering an allergic reaction to the glue used for eyelash extensions.
The Glee star underwent the botched beauty treatment for permanent lash extensions earlier this week (begs20Feb12), but she has now taken to wearing sunglasses everywhere she goes and she was forced to explain her new accessory while appearing on America's Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday (24Feb12).
She said, "Something bad is happening. I've got eyelash extensions... Here's the problem - the glue has formaldehyde in it and I'm allergic...!
"I swelled up and I'm sneezing... It looks like I have lips on my eyelids."
Chenoweth then removed her shades to show talk show host Letterman and viewers how bad the problem was.
She explained, "I have on make-up, so that helped a lot. They (her eyes) are swollen in the middle and also they don't open up all the way so those of you who know who I am, you know that my eyes open big. They don't now. It's so upsetting."
The Broadway star has been treating the allergy with specially-prescribed eye drops from her doctor, but even they have caused an unpleasant side affect.
She added, "It's crusty and hard (after the eye drops dry)... They're just not perky like they used to be."
It's not the first time the actress/singer has been far from tip-top condition on a late night U.S. talk show - she was fighting a bronchial infection as she prepared for a major Christmas concert in Los Angeles in December (11).
Promoting the charity show on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Chenoweth brought along her personal stash of antibacterial gel and a disposable hygienic mask for the host - as she didn't want the funnyman to catch her germs.
