The trials and tribulations of the producers of All My Children and One Life to Live, the two soap operas that have been revived online, have the makings of a soap opera in their own right. A week after it was announced that the producers would be reducing the number of weekly episodes, they said on Wednesday that they had interrupted production over a dispute with the technicians union IATSE. Right now we have 40 episodes of each show ready to post through September, and if we can resolve this issue by August, we can get back into the studio on time so audiences will enjoy uninterrupted postings of their favorite shows, the producers said. They noted that other TV unions, including SAG-AFTRA and the Directors Guild Of America, have been supportive, but that they cannot afford, and our business model cannot sustain, traditional broadcast rates. The union has not commented.
