Lady GaGa and Senate Majority Leader HARRY REID have become unlikely Twitter pals after the pop star challenged the politician over the U.S. military's anti-gay 'Don't ask, don't tell' policy.
The Paparazzi singer took to Twitter.com earlier this week (begs13Sep10) to urge fans to contact Reid in a bid to boost a vote to allow people to serve in the forces regardless of their sexuality.
Her outcry came days after she took a group of Air Force members and soldiers, discharged for being gay, as her dates to the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (12Sep10).
But it seems her efforts were largely unnecessary - a vote to repeal the military's ban of openly gay and lesbian soldiers had already been planned for next week (begs20Sep10), before the singer went public with her thoughts.
Senator Reid took to Twitter.com to respond directly to Lady Gaga, explaining, "Anyone qualified to serve this country should be allowed to do so."
A delighted Gaga responded, "God Bless and Thank You, @HarryReid, from all of us, like you, who believe in equality and the dream of this country."
