Lady GaGa played a triumphant homecoming concert at New York's Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night (06.07.10).

The 'Alejandro' singer became emotional during the show explaining to her adoring fans how she used to watch other great acts from the audience.

She said "My name is Lady Gaga and I used to sit right over there, way far in the back and way up top... I used to stare at this side of the room, and I used to think, 'I'm gonna be up there.'

"Every second you watch me on this stage, you remember, I was sitting where you are."

The stage set seemed to be influenced by The Streets of New York and featured a battered old subway car and a gritty urban landscape and Gaga underwent a number of costume changes during the night including one burlesque-inspired leopard print latex dress.

At one stage in the set, the flamboyant pop star dedicated the song 'Speechless' to her father in the audience for helping her achieve her music dream.

She said: "Of all the drunk men in my life, dad, you're my favourite."

Closing the concert with her hit single 'Bad Romance', a clearly emotional Gaga was still on a high.

She said "We did it, little monsters. We made it to the Monster Ball! We made it to Madison Square Garden."

The 24-year-old star - real name Stefani Germanotta - took to twitter earlier in the day to express her excitement at bringing her 'Monster Ball' tour to her home city.

She tweeted "Today is what dreams are made of. 3 Sold out nights at MSG in my home town. I used to go watch Madonna, Cher + the Stones and would cry. I would stare into the brightlights and imagine I could do anything. Be anything. And I would tell myself it would be me up there one day. (sic)"
