The weird and wonderful world of Lady GaGa is coming to life on New York's Madison Avenue, with high end department store Barneys using the 'Born This Way' star as inspiration for their seasonal windows.
According to the New York Daily News, Gaga has also co-designed the four windows, one of which is made entirely of hair. The bizarre creations went on show just before midnight on Monday (21 November 2011), wowing Christmas shoppers the following morning. Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman, who collaborated with the singer and fashion director Nicola Formichetti on the project, said, "The hair window is an extraordinary one.Basically, Gaga and Nicola had a dream of making her boudoir, with her in it, and every single thing in the window had to be made out of hair". Formichetti came up with the idea after sketching a picture of Gaga lying down on a day bed surrounded by a cabinet, a mirror and a chair. From there, Freedman says the team, "literally created a room out of hair that is truly a work of art", adding, "Whether it's synthetic or human, there is nothing in that window that is not meant to be worn as a wig".
Meanwhile, Barneys have dedicated 5,550 square foot of its New York store to Lady Gaga's Workshop - a spin on Santa's Workshop - that will sell apparel, jewellery and other items inspired by the singer. A portion of sales will be donated to the Born This Way Foundation - a charity set up to help combat youth inequality.
