Larry Hagman - Larry Hagman Raises $500k From Dallas Auction
Larry Hagman, the American actor best known for playing 'JR. Ewing' in the classic 1970's soap 'Dallas, has raised over $500k after auctioning his memorabilia from the show, reports Wfaa-TV. The Hollywood auction raised twice the amount 79-year-old Hagman was expecting.
Hagman himself showed up at Saturday's sale in Beverly Hills, urging buyers to "bid high and bid often". Julien's Auctions said the highest price paid for an individual item was $80,000 for a saddle used when Hagman and his Dallas co-star Linda Gray rode along Wilshire Boulevard earlier in the week. The actor said he decided to part with over 400 items because it was time to downsize. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Hagman, Gray and Patrick Duffy had all signed on to reprise their roles for a new 'Dallas' series. Charlene Tilto and Steve Kanaly will also return for the new program alongside new cast-members Josh Henderson, Jordana Brewster, Brenda Strong and Jesse Metcalfe. Television network Tnt will make a decision on whether to go ahead with a first-season after viewing the show's pilot episode.
Upon leaving Dallas, Larry Hagman starred in the 1978 movie 'Superman' and Oliver Stone's 1995 film 'Nixon'. In 2010, he made a guest appearance on 'Desperate Housewives'.
