Lauren Alaina certainly wasn't the first and she won't be the last, but fluffing the lines of the US National Anthem sure wasn't an easy pill to swallow for the 'American Idol' runner-up as she performed the 'Star Spangled Banner' on Thanksgiving at an American Football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.
17 year-old Alaina can at least take solace that the singer who beat her to the 'American Idol' crown in its 10th season, Scott Mccreery, also encountered Thanksgiving woes of his own, being caught out badly lip syncing his new single 'The Trouble With Girls' at the MACy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, reports Msn. In Alaina's case however it seemed like nerves simply got the better of her momentarily as she trailed off whilst singing the line "What so proudly we hailed, through the twi." Recovering quickly she finished the song and gained a generous ovation from the crowd as a response. Last year Christina Aguilera had also got the words to the anthem wrong but continued regardless.
Fronting up to the incident, the singer took to Twitter later on to say "I'm not a robot. I have No excuses. I messed up. You know what can ya do. At Least didn't fall down again."
