Leann Rimes is set to attempt a lawsuit against two women she claims illegally taped a phone conversation of hers, and published it on the internet, reports Fox News.
The country singer has suggested the women taped a phone conversation with her and posted an edited version online. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, seeks damages of more than $25,000 against Kimberly Smiley and her daughter Lexi, although the pair are stating that the legal proceedings are simply a media publicity ploy to up her profile. The 30-year old singer had reportedly already contacted Smiley in an attempt to stop negative Internet activity surrounding her private life. Rimes made her fame with debut country album Blue, which became a multiplatinum record.
This latest controversy comes a day after Rimes entered an in-patient treatment facility. Her publicist, Marcel Pariseau, had described her admittance to the centre as an attempt to "learn and develop coping mechanisms." The singer will still be able to perform on weekends throughout September. "LeAnn has voluntarily entered a 30 day in-patient treatment facility to cope with anxiety and stress," said rep Pariseau to People Magazine in an exclusive statement. "While there will be speculation regarding her treatment, she is simply there to learn and develop coping mechanisms. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."
