An auction staged to mark what would have been late guitar great Les Paul's 97th birthday has raised almost $5 million (£3.1 million).
The two-day Julien’s Auctions Les Paul estate sale in Beverly Hills featured items like the legendary musician's 1927 Gibson L5 sunburst guitar, which sold for $87,500 (£54,700), a Les Paul touring rig, which sold for $81,250 (£50,780) and the 1982 Gibson Les Paul prototype recording model, which went under the hammer for $180,000 (£112,500).
Other highlights of the weekend auction included a collection of Les Paul research notes, a Gibson Les Paul Custom 80th birthday guitar and a Les Paul recording console.
