Leslie Nielsen - Leslie Nielsen Dies Aged 84 After Suffering From Pneumonia
Leslie Nielsen, the legendary comic actor and star of 'Airplane!' and 'The Naked Gun' movies, has died aged 84, reports BBC News. Nielsen passed away in hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was being treated for pneumonia. The actor had a long and distinguished film career that saw him appear in over 100 movies and he received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Despite beginning his career as a serious actor, Nielsen's role in the 1980 classic spoof 'Airplane!' saw him become a comic star. His deadpan delivery and famous line "Don't call me Shirley" catapulted Nielsen to global fame, and he starred in the comedy crime show 'Police Squad' shortly after, where he played the hapless detective 'Frank Drebin'. The character lived on in the much-loved 'Naked Gun' series which saw Nielsen appear alongside PRISCILLA PRESLEY. The actor's Nephew DOUG NIELSEN said, "With his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away".
Nielsen was admitted to hospital two weeks ago after contracting pneumonia. His condition had worsened over the past few days, and relatives said he passed away peacefully.
