Lewis Holds Top Spot

Leona Lewis has held on to the number one spot in the singles chart as her latest song becomes the biggest-selling release of the year to date.

Last year's X Factor winner fought off competition from reformed boyband Take That and their new single Rule The World to retain the top spot for the third week running.

Her chart-topping ballad Bleeding Love also snatched the title of this year's bestselling single after outselling Mika's Grace Kelly – the previous bestseller- by 10,000 copies.

The popularity of Lewis' latest release follows on from the success of her debut single, A Moment Like This, which became the second-biggest seller of 2006 and last year's Christmas number one.

Elsewhere in the singles chart Apologise, Timberland's new track featuring One Republic, moved up one place to three.

Valerie, the collaboration between Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse, also climbed one place to claim the number four spot as Home – the latest song by Irish boyband Westlife – slipped back two places to number five.

There was more joy for the group in the album chart, where their release Back Home went straight in at number one.

In claiming the top spot Westlife clipped the wings of veteran rock band The Eagles, who had entered the album chart at number one last week with Long Road Out of Eden – their first studio release in 28 years.

The Ultimate Collection from Whitney Houston climbed two places to number three, while McFly's Greatest Hits entered the album chart at number four.

Raising Sand, by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, completed the top five despite dropping one place on the album chart.
