Liam Hemsworth is set to star in 'Aurora Rising'.

The 'Hunger Games' actor has been tapped for the lead role in Relativity Media's military-themed action flick, playing an ace fighter pilot, according to Deadline.

The film centres on a Californian surfer who joins the military and, after impressing bosses on his first mission, is scouted to join an elite team of fighter pilots. However, his ascension through the ranks occurs just as a major international conflict looms and the team finds itself in peril.

The action movie's script comes from Christian Gudegast, best known for writing 'A Man Apart' and it will be produced by Emjag Productions' Alexandra Milchan, Film 360's Scott Lambert and Guymon Casady, Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and executive producer Antonio Moura Santos Jr.

'Aurora Rising' marks Hemsworth's second movie with Relativity Media after taking a lead role in the upcoming corporate espionage thriller 'Paranoia' alongside Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman and Amber Heard.

The hunky Australian star has a full slate of film roles on the horizon, including reprising his role as Gale Hawthorne in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' opposite Jennifer Lawrence.

Hemsworth has also signed on to play classic storybook character Ali Baba in 'Arabian Nights'.
