Folk icon Gordon Lightfoot joined his activist daughter at the ongoing Occupy Toronto demonstration in Canada on Tuesday (15Nov11) to perform for the protesters.
The Canadian singer/songwriter told local news reporters his daughter Meredith had invited him to the tent city in St. James Park, but didn't expect him to bring a guitar.
He said, "I'm here at the invitation of my daughter to come and see the site."
Lightfoot's appearance came amid reports local authorities plan to evict the protesters overnight.
The If You Could Read My Mind singer said, "I can only hope that something of some sort can be accomplished from it but I don't exactly know what that would be. I'm not really much into the political aspect of things."
But he admitted he would not be surprised if the activists were moved on: "I've heard that they want to get the sprinkler system to close down for the winter in here; I don't blame them. I'm just concerned about my daughter's welfare. She's strong; I'm actually quite proud of her because she's been here ever since the thing began. She's very stoic. She's smart."
