Singer Robert Mawhinney is facing up to 30 years behind bars amid allegations he fraudulently obtained more than $6 million (£3.75 million) in bank loans.
The frontman for fledgling band Lights Over Paris was arrested at Miami International Airport in Florida earlier this month (Jan13) after returning from a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was charged with making a false statement on a loan application.
Federal prosecutors claim Mawhinney - also known as Robb University - lived the life of a rock star from August, 2009 after managing to obtain four loans from Comerica Inc. in less than two years.
He reportedly presented bank bosses with documents showing he had almost $8 million (£5 million) in assets - when in fact he had less than $10,000 (£6,250) in his account.
During that time, the 30 year old released an Ep with his band, titled Turn Off the Lights, and even managed to win over rapper The Game, who made an appearance in the promo for their track I'm Not A Gangsta.
The singer is currently being held without bond and is due to be arraigned in a California court on 11 February (13).
