Lily Allen Admits Stay In Psych Ward After Miscarriageby Contributor | 21 January 2009
Singer Lily Allen has revealed she admitted herself to a psychiatric clinic last year after suffering a miscarriage.
The Smile star told the Daily Telegraph's magazine that she checked into what she dubbed a "nuthouse" in January 2008, after losing her baby.
"I stayed there for three weeks. I was really depressed because of the miscarriage and Id kind of lost the plot a bit. It was quite a nasty time," she said.
However, the 23-year-old added: "Actually, it was quite nice being in there. No one could get to me; no one knew I was there."
Asked about the miscarriage, Allen replied: "I guess it wasn't to be. Thats all I can say. I mean, you can kind of say, "What if?"
"Maybe if Id stayed pregnant and had the baby then things would have worked out between me and [former boyfriend] Ed [Simons]. I don't know. You could drive yourself insane thinking about it."
Allen has recently hit the headlines after appearing to suggest cocaine use can be acceptable for some people.
A statement issued soon after clarified her comments, saying Allen "does not condone illegal drug use and has every sympathy with individuals and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs".
An incident at the GQ awards last year heightened concerns of Allen's apparent attitude to drink and drugs, with numerous media outlets portraying the young singer as having drunkenly insulted her co-host Sir Elton John.
Sir Elton has since described the tabloid reports of the awards ceremony as "nonsense" and told the Daily Telegraph he and Allen had a "great time" presenting the awards.
"She told me to f*** off because Im 40 years older than she is," he explained.
"I love her. She was feeling no pain, I was feeling no pain. I was sober, she wasn't, but it doesn't matter. We certainly didn't have a fallout onstage at all," he added.
