Steven Spielberg's historical epic Lincoln has been tapped for glory at the Critics Choice Movie Awards after landing a record-breaking 13 mentions.

The film will compete against the likes of Argo, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, The Master, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty for the event's top prize, Best Picture, at the 18th annual ceremony in Los Angeles on 10 January (13).

Daniel Day-Lewis, who plays former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in the film, will fight for the Best Actor title, as will Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook), John Hawkes (The Sessions), Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables), Joaquin Phoenix (The Master), and Denzel Washington (Flight).

Lincoln's Tommy Lee Jones is up for Best Supporting Actor, alongside Alan Arkin (Argo), Javier Bardem (Skyfall), Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), and Matthew MCConaughey (Magic Mike), while his co-star Sally Field is nominated in the female category, where she's up against Amy Adams (The Master), Judi Dench (Skyfall), Ann Dowd (Compliance), Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), and Helen Hunt (The Sessions).

Rounding out the major categories are Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone), Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), Emmanuelle Riva (Amour), Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild), and Naomi Watts (The Impossible) for Best Actress.

The remainder of Lincoln's nods stem from technical mentions, in addition to Best Director (Spielberg), Acting Ensemble, and Adapted Screenplay.

The previous Critics Choice nominations record was held by 2010 movie Black Swan with 12.
