Lindsay Lohan has signed up to star in 'Gotti: Three Generations'.

The 24-year-old actress had been set to portray Victoria Gotti - the daughter of infamous New York mobster John Gotti - in a new film about his life, but has now been cast in the role of Kim Gotti, the wife John Gotti Jr.

She has signed a two-picture deal to star in 'Gotti: Three Generations' and the sequel 'Mob Street'.

Lindsay can't wait to start shooting the movie and insists it is a chance to prove herself as an actress again following the recent troubles in her personal life.

She said: "I'm really excited to be back on set and clear up all the misinterpretations about me and show this is what I love to do."

John Travolta stars as Gotti, the mob family's patriarch, while Joe Pesci will play one of his Mafia deputies and Lindsay - who is facing prison again after being accused of stealing a necklace from jewellers Kamofie & Company - is thrilled to be working with both of them.

She said: "I think it's such an iconic story. I think it's a great story to be told. I'm honoured to be working with John Travolta and Joe Pesci."

'Gotti: Three Generations' and 'Mob Street' executive producer Marc Fiore is thrilled that Lindsay has joined the cast.

In a statement, he said: "We're very pleased to have Lindsay on board for both of these films. She has been very enthusiastic about the Gotti project, and after resuming discussions with her, we were impressed by her commitment to the film and felt she would be a perfect Kim Gotti."

In 1992, Gotti - who died in 2002 - was convicted of five murders, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, obstruction of Justice, illegal gambling, extortion, tax evasion and loan sharking and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
