Lionel Richie - Lionel Richie Owes $1.1 Million In Unpaid Taxes
"Hello, is it me you're looking for?" sang Lionel Richie in the 1980s. "Yes," says the Irs, in 2012. Lionel Richie seems to be in financial trouble and he could soon find out that 'Dancing on the Ceiling' is no way to try and hide from the tax man. According to E! Online, Richie owes a sum of around $1.1 million taxes, leftover from 2010.
The Irs has served Lionel with a lien, which means that the federal government could seize his assets, if he doesn't pay up pretty quickly. Luckily for the old soul crooner, though, he has a number of projects in the pipeline, meaning that the cash should start rolling in quickly enough to keep him out of trouble. He has just released a new album, Tuskegee, which shot straight to the top of the country music album charts. It's his highest charting album in over 25 years, so should ensure that a few dollars start making their way into his bank account.
If that doesn't quite pay off the bill, Lionel always has his TV ventures to fall back on, too. He has a regular slot on The Voice, this season, acting as an adviser to the hopeful contestants. And he'll also be starring on Duets, a brand new TV talent show contest. Duets is scheduled to start on ABC later this year and will also star Kelly Clarkson and ROBIN THICKE.
