A 'Little House on the Prairie' feature film is in the works.

David Gordon Green looks set to direct a future big screen adaptation of the children's book series - which was created by Laura Ingalls Wilder - and Abi Morgan is in line to write the script with Sony Pictures in negotiations about getting the project off the ground, Deadline reports.

'Little House on the Prairie' is perhaps most famous for its small screen adaptation which ran from 1974 to 1983 and starred Michael Landon as patriarch Charles Wilder and Melissa Gilbert as Laura.

The TV series told the story of Laura's time working on a farm in the 19th century American west, but plot details for the motion picture are yet to be released.

David has largely been focusing on comedy movies after helming 'Pineapple Express' in 2008 and 'Your Highness' - which starred Natalie Portman and James Franco - and 'The Sitter' in 2011.

The filmmaker has recently been working on upcoming movie 'Prince Avalanche', which stars Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, and is a remake of Icelandic project 'Either Way'.
