The former Velvet Underground frontman, who has penned classic tunes like Walk on the Wild Side and Perfect Day, 'beat' Interpol's Paul Banks and Serj Tankian of System of a Down in the Flavorwire.com list of songwriting shame.
Matt Bellamy of Muse, The Doors star Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, Coldplay's Chris Martin and Bob Dylan also made the top 10.
