Dolph Lundgren was asked to follow in the footsteps of his THE EXPENDABLES co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger by stepping into politics - but the movie tough guy turned down the chance to run for office.
Schwarzenegger stepped out of Hollywood and into politics in 2003 when he was elected Governor of California, but returned to the big screen this summer (10) with a guest appearance in Sylvester Stallone's new action blockbuster.
His co-star, Lundgren, admits he was asked to run for office in his native Sweden earlier this year (10), but he refused the offer.
He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "Funny enough, I was asked to run for office in Sweden this year. But I didn't want do it... I spoke out about the environment, and the Green Party in Sweden came to me and asked. I didn't want to do it, but it was interesting."
But the actor isn't ruling out a career in public service in the future.
He adds, "I figure, if you're a celebrity, it's not good to work for one party. You can raise more awareness if people don't look at you as working for one party only. But it would be fun to get involved in public service in some way because I've never done that. As you get older, you go from caring about yourself to caring about your family to caring about your community."
