New girl band Major have challenged Miley Cyrus to a ''twerk battle''.

The 'Birds' hitmakers, sisters Irene and Elsa Major, who are from Cameroon, have grown up watching people 'twerking' in African dances so they are confident of taking on the 21-year-old star - who caused controversy for twerking up against Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs in August - in a twerk-off.

Elsa exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''If I started twerking then everybody would forget about Miley's twerking. I would be like, 'Darling, do you want a twerk battle?' That would be great.

''The whole twerk thing is such a battle. The African dance is all about the waist and the bum, it's all about shaking the waist and moving it so for me twerking is not that shocking.

''People are like, 'Oh my god, what is that?' But I've grown up watching it so for me it's not that shocking.

''If I showed you videos of some African dancing you'd be shocked. Twerking, that's what it is. I like it. I wouldn't be walking around twerking, I'm kind of a lady sometimes but I could do that with Miley, definitely.''

Major are no strangers to a touch of quirkiness and humour as they show in their music video for third single 'Birds', which is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's famous 1963 horror movie 'The Birds', and Elsa explained it was a chance viewing of the film convinced them to make the song their next single.

She added: ''We had this vision about the video, we wanted something black and white, something direct. Not about the boys and running around the streets or dancing on cars with boys. It had to be simple, deep and dark.

''All the birds attacking us like in the film was great. We actually came across the movie accidentally and we decided to make 'Birds' one of our singles. We thought it was a sign.

''We had so many songs written but we thought it was a sign and we had to have it as the next single.''

Major's new single 'Birds' is available to download now.
