Maria Sharapova - Maria Sharapova Spends Her Millions On Sweets
Maria Sharapova has launched her very own candy company, SugarPova, ahead of her US Open tennis tournament next week.
The tennis champion, who has in her career won four Grand Slam titles, opened her company on Monday (August 20th 2012) at New York City's swish Henri Bendel department store. When she won the French Open, she discussed SugarPova, calling it 'the most exciting project that I've ever done . because it's my own business, my own investment, my own money'. It seems she can certainly afford the investment as well, having topped Forbes list of highest paid female athletes for eight years in a row with earnings of $27.1 million over the past year.
The Sharapova and her company have designed 12 different types of candy in artistic packages for $5.99 plus shipping costs with the website dubbing it an 'accessible bit of luxury'. A percentage of the sales for each package sold will be donated to the Maria Sharapova Foundation which aims to improve the lives of students around Belarus who were affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. We can't help thinking that Miss Sharapova is sending out a mixed message with her toned abs and killer biceps, tempting candy for those who long to achieve her champion physique. Still, there is a 'sporty' range of sweets in the shape of tennis balls for the particularly ambitious consumers.
