Maximo Park Defend Veterans

Maximo Park have defended Glastonbury's decision to feature older headline acts.

Frontman Paul Smith - who will open the festival on Thursday (25.06.09) afternoon with his bandmates - can't wait for this weekend because he loves the diversity the legendry music event brings.

He said: "I'm a massive fan of Neil Young, all his stuff is great so to be able to see him perform all of his material will be amazing. It's a shame he is on at the same time as Animal Collective though as I'd love to see them too.

"That's the thing with Glastonbury, it seems to be defined by the media by the headline acts but if you wander around the fields you can see so much interesting stuff in the dance tents or the African music that plays."

Earlier this year, festival organizer Michael Eavis was criticised for inviting a range of veteran performers - including Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band and Welsh singer Tom Jones - to play at the renowned Somerset festival.

Paul has revealed his group are planning to play a set-list specially chosen by fans.

He explained to Gigwise: "We opened it up online and I think we're going to find out the results soon and do a little practice if we've got to play any older stuff.
