Maximo Park have chosen an original way to mark their homecoming gig on December 15th.

They have designed their own re-branded version of Newcastle Brown Ale, to be sold to fans at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena.

The band was approached by Tyneside Brewers who make the ale and asked if they would like to create their own one –off beer.

Tens of thousands of the limited edition product have been made and will be available in bars across the country from December 15th.

Frontman PAUL SMITH said: "So many things have happened for our band in a short space of time and to have our image emblazoned on a Brown label is another addition to that list.

"It would be great for our band to be as synonymous with Newcastle as the mighty Brown Ale and it's both amusing and an honour to be able to deface the label in this manner!"

Speaking to playlouder.com, Smith also revealed that most of the band's songs have been written in the north-east and that he hoped the collaboration would add a further dimension to the home-coming concert.

Meanwhile, another northern indie band has just announced that they will be playing a giant homecoming show next year.

THE Kaiser Chiefs will play a concert at Leeds United's home ground, Elland Road Stadium on May 24th.

The band have revealed they will be supported by THE ENEMY and KATE NASH, with more acts to be announced in the run up to the show.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1, lead singer Ricky Wilson said that the band were "very excited" and "very proud" that they would be playing such a big show in their home town.

He added that it would be the band's biggest concert, apart from festivals, so far.
