Mcavoy Signs Up With Red Cross
Actor James McAvoy is returning to the impoverished African nation which formed the backdrop of his latest movie as an ambassador for the Red Cross. THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND sees MCAvoy play the personal physician of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, and the star admits the harrowing poverty he witnessed in the developing country has inspired him to use his new-found fame to promote humanitarian causes. Speaking at the film's gala screening to open the London Film Festival last night (18OCT06), MCAvoy said, "Filming in Uganda affected me personally and I'm going back in January to raise awareness for the work of the Red Cross. "It was different to any other experience in my life."
